Masked bandits got more than they bargained for Sunday afternoon when they ransacked the Winslow Police Department’s dumpster.

The four raccoons found themselves trapped, but two officers, Ellen Stewart and Josh Chouinard, came to their aid.

It’s unclear whether the raccoons found any choice morsels inside the dumpster. Photos show takeout containers, plastic coffee cups and at least one Big Gulp-style drink container.

But with temperatures approaching the 80s on Sunday, the big metal box was not an ideal place for the furry felons.

The officers used a two-by-four to make a ramp, which the raccoons used to return to safety. But the jury’s out as to whether they learned their lesson.
