One woman has died and three people were injured after a three-vehicle crash Sunday evening on Route 1 in Gouldsboro.

Heather Allen, 39, of Ellsworth died at the scene after her vehicle rolled over, trapping Allen and a passenger, who sustained injuries not considered life-threatening. Courtney Washington, 46 of Bangor was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. by the busy thoroughfare’s intersection with Old Route 1.

Washington failed to stop her white 2024 Subaru Crosstek at a stop sign before she struck Allen’s green 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer as the Ellsworth woman traveled east on Route 1, Moss said Monday. That sent Allen’s SUV spinning into the westbound lane, where it hit a red 2014 Subaru Legacy. The Subaru’s driver was transported to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
