It’s going to be hot, sunny and muggy today. The only consolation may be that tomorrow will be even hotter. So keep a cool drink handy if you’re away from the AC for any amount of time.
This week Rockland was roiled after learning that the criminal case against the bus driver who hit and killed a 12-year-old boy last November was dropped under a plea deal that won’t see him serve jail time.
The city’s police chief made his displeasure known Wednesday in a lengthy statement, saying his officers’ work showed criminal charges were “justified.” He said that the evidence pointed to “criminal gross negligence,” but prosecutors felt it was “insufficient” to prevail in court.
Newport man with cancer receives free roof from Bangor company
Mike Pete has been battling cancer — first in his larynx, then his bladder — for nearly two years, but he got surprising good news recently when a Bangor company offered to replace his roof for free.
Freedom Roofing has offered the same gift to one local person in need each year, but Ryan Morris, president of the company, said this year was different. Morris has multiple close family members battling cancer, so Pete’s case hit close to home.
“We’re just hoping that we can alleviate part of the stress he’s facing at the moment for him and his family,” Morris said.
