I once thanked Rep. Amy Roeder for a bill she sponsored in the Maine House of Representatives. Her response surprised me. I expected pride. Instead, she simply said, “I like to be helpful.”
That response illustrates what I have witnessed over the 12 years I have known Amy. Her priorities, beliefs, and actions, in the Legislature and in her personal life, revolve around helping people and making things better.
In her three terms in the Maine House of Representatives, Amy sponsored and co-sponsored bills that made news, like the Paid Family and Medical Leave Program that took effect May 1. Her bills focused on protecting the rights and safety of workers, on pay transparency, expanding the minimum wage, public health, education, rural economic development, and support for small businesses.
While serving as a lawmaker, Amy earned an MBA — her second master’s degree — from the University of Maine. She taught theater students as an adjunct professor and raised two sons adopted from foster care.
Amy is running to represent Bangor and Hermon in Senate District 9. She earned 100 percent on her voting record from the Maine AFL-CIO, Planned Parenthood, and the Recovery Action Project, which addresses the addiction crisis in Maine.
I will vote for Amy because I know she will continue to put 100% effort into helping people and making things better.
