Bangor International Airport will get $5.5 million in federal funds to improve its runways.
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ office announced the award Tuesday, saying it would go toward repaving 5,724 feet of taxiway A and rehabilitating 900 feet of taxiway M.
“This project will help ensure the airfield continues to safely and efficiently support commercial, cargo, military, and general aviation operations for years to come. We are grateful to Senator Susan Collins for her continued leadership and support of Bangor International Airport. Her commitment to investing in aviation infrastructure has helped airports across Maine make meaningful improvements that strengthen safety, support economic development, and better serve the traveling public,” the airport’s director, Jose Saavedra, said in a statement.
That’s among $25 million in congressionally directed spending that Collins has secured for Maine’s airports over the past five years, her office said.
