BREWER — Supporting patients with cancer takes the whole community. On Saturday, Aug. 15, cancer survivors, family, friends and caregivers will come together to show their support and raise funds for patients with cancer at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Champion the Cure Challenge.
The kick-off event, which includes a walk, run, and cycle at Northern Light Cancer Care’s Lafayette Family Cancer Institute in Brewer raises critical funds that support cancer research and resources. The day is full of hope, with every dollar raised staying local to enhance care for patients in the region, like Kim Stewart, cancer survivor, who participates in the Challenge every year.
“Even before cancer had really touched my life, I took part in Champion the Cure Challenge,” Kim said, who found out she had breast cancer at 33. When a beloved family member was diagnosed with cancer, it became even more meaningful to Kim. “When I got my own cancer diagnosis, I realized more than ever how essential it is to have care available locally. I take part in the Challenge so that everyone can have access to the same kind of cancer care that I did.”
Registration for Champion the Cure Challenge is open for all events. Community members passionate about giving back and making a difference for patients with cancer are encouraged to visit https://ctcchallenge.org to learn more and register. Events also include a virtual option, where participants can take the Challenge anywhere or any way they want. Individuals may join the Car Show and Motorcycle Ride on Sunday, Aug. 16, as well as the Paddle on the Penobscot River on Saturday, Sept. 12.
