Firefighters aren’t accustomed to the blaze being brought to them.
But that’s exactly what happened in Tremont on Monday when the driver of a Tesla stopped the sedan in front of the fire house before its battery ignited.
The driver of the late model Tesla hit debris in the road, which punctured the underside protective skid plate, according to the Tremont Volunteer Fire Department.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the driver stopped the Tesla in front of the fire station on Route 102A, also known as Harbor Drive. The high-voltage battery then ignited.
The department luckily had a good-sized arsenal for dealing with electric vehicle fires and extinguished the blaze, but not before it did a number on the sedan.
No one was injured in the fire.
