Two teenagers have been charged in connection with a string of vehicle thefts in Orrington and Brewer following a joint investigation by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Brewer Police Department.

A 15-year-old from Orrington and a 14-year-old from Brewer were each charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and unauthorized use of property.

The investigation began July 24 when Brewer police received a report of an abandoned vehicle, which police determined had been stolen from Orrington, according to the sheriff’s office.

Over the following weeks, more vehicles were reported stolen or taken without permission in both towns. All were recovered.

Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. Authorities reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove keys when parked.
