And what better place to soak in the last bit of warm weather than a private island off the coast of Maine or in one of the state’s thousands of lakes?
We found three such islands on the market now that range in size and value, but all have asking prices of less than $1 million.
Jonesport, $449,000
This nearly 2-acre private island is located off the coast of Jonesport and offers 360-degree views of the ocean and nearby islands.
Little Sheep Island holds a one-bedroom cabin built in 2013 with 600 square feet of living space, according to the listing.
The first floor holds a main living space with a kitchenette while a ladder leads to a loft area that serves as a bedroom. The cabin has wood flooring and wood paneled walls throughout as well as a generator for electricity. The cottage doesn’t appear to have heat or a bathroom, the listing shows.
Outside, the home has a large patio that overlooks the grassy property. The coast of the island is mostly rocky with some sandy spots.
The property hit the market in June with an asking price of $449,000.
Beals, $995,000
This three-bedroom, one-bathroom log cabin perched on Pomp Island has been on and off the market since 2021 when it was listed for nearly $1.3 million, Zillow records show. It was listed most recently in February for $995,000.
The 28-acre property is located just west of Beals and accessible only by boat. The home is a roughly 20-minute boat ride from the public landing in Jonesport.
The 990-square-foot cabin was built in 1990 and offers a wraparound front porch and open living space with towering ceilings.
While the home is off-grid, meaning solar power provides electricity, propane handles other appliances, there’s a septic holding tank on site and water comes from a rain-fed cistern, according to the listing. The cabin also has a wood stove for heat, but is intended to be a three-season property.
Beaver Cove, $900,000
This 4-acre property is tucked away in Beaver Cove, located in the southeast corner of Moosehead Lake.
The wooded private island — called Snake Island — has been owned by the same family for two decades, according to the listing. It hit the market in late June with a $900,000 price tag.
The main camp on the island has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and more than 1,500 square feet of living space. The home also offers cathedral ceilings, a wood stove for heat, a spacious deck and wood paneling throughout.
In addition to the main lodge, there’s a guest bungalow that sits over the water for additional sleeping space, according to the listing.
The island has a quiet lagoon for docking boats, a nearby sand beach for swimming, a well for drinking water, and solar power for energy.
