Unenrolled voters have received several oversized postcards from Susan Collins. The postage alone would likely cost 82 cents if you or I mailed it. But Collins has the backing of Stronger America, which can produce glossy, photo-rich cards and mail them from Alexandria, Virginia, for less.

The cards ask the voter to phone Susan Collins and thank her! For what? For voting to approve a Supreme Court justice who she says lied to her? For approving almost all members of the most unqualified and dangerous cabinet in presidential history? For a vote that raised health insurance costs for many Mainers? For increasing ICE funding and power? For approving stock trading in Congress members’ portfolios? For voting the way President Donald Trump wants her to vote 95% of the time, including initially on war with Iran, regardless of impacts on ordinary Mainers?

Stronger America is a dark money political action group. It’s hard to find out who funds it, or who leads it, but it is a funding source for Pine Tree Results, “a super PAC formed in early 2025 that has raised $12.7 million through the end of March, almost entirely from wealthy individuals, corporations, and dark-money nonprofits. Federal Election Commission records show its funding comes from some of the country’s most prominent Republican donors from private equity, oil, media, and conservative dark-money networks. None of it comes from Maine voters,” according to Nation magazine.

I think any senator can “bring home the bacon.” On the ethical and moral issues of our time, I believe Susan Collins has lost her way and that we need a different senator.
