Susan Collins has represented the State of Maine for 30 years, fairly well, but somewhere along the way I think she lost her integrity. Without integrity how can she be trusted?
Why didn’t she speak up more forcefully when ICE killed Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero? Why didn’t she say something when Rep. LaMonica McIver was arrested for trying to enter an immigration center in New Jersey, which is her right and duty? Why didn’t she speak out when President Donald Trump tore down the East Wing and the White House grounds were torn up for MMA fights? Why does she seem to accept the president putting his name on buildings and changing the contents of the Smithsonian?
She says she has increased support for rural health care, yet there are no obstetrics at many Maine hospitals. She helped get public workers Social Security benefits by eliminating government pension offset. Municipal workers have been fighting to eliminate the offset for years. It was done under President Joe Biden not Trump.
These are just a few ways I think she has lost her integrity, her trust from Maine people. To me, 10,000 consecutive votes is not integrity; it means you are doing your job. After 30 years, it seems her concerns are seniority, position, and influence, not her integrity or trust. I believe it’s time for Mainers to move on.
