Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to an early morning crash, Tuesday, in the town of Albion that left a driver in serious condition and killed his passenger.

The crash was reported at about 12:40 a.m. on Benton Road, according to Maine State Police.

Police said the car left the roadway and went into a wooded area.

The driver, Jonathan Nutt, 40, of China, was taken by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he is listed in serious condition, police said.

His passenger, Anthony Lapio, 35, of Burnham, died at the scene, police said.
