ROCKLAND, Maine — A 26-year-old Rockland woman made her initial court appearance Tuesday on a charge that she assaulted a man and damaged his property.
Bail was set at $200 cash for Daphne Deveau who is charged with misdemeanor domestic violence assault, criminal mischief and violation of condition of release.
The victim in the alleged assault is Aziayh Scott who is awaiting a retrial for manslaughter for the May 2024 death of a child in Owls Head.
According to an affidavit filed in the state court in Knox County by the Rockland Police Department, officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident Saturday. Scott provided police with a video that showed the woman striking Scott with a broom, and threatening him with the broom, according to the affidavit. Scott said Deveau also had broken his television set.
Deveau denied assaulting Scott. She claimed he had taken her money and cologne, according to the affidavit.
A mistrial was declared Nov. 12, 2025, in 25-year-old Scott’s first trial for manslaughter, after a Knox County jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on whether his actions led to the death of 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson.
Scott remains free on $35,000 cash bail.
A retrial has tentatively been scheduled for March 2027. He is from Louisiana but must remain in Knox County while awaiting the second trial.
