Ouellette Road in Cross Lake has closed temporarily for roadwork.
The road, which branches off Route 161, will be closed for up to three weeks, the Maine Department of Transportation said Monday. Detours will add roughly 4 miles for drivers.
Crews will replace a large culvert at Sullimond Brook Bridge over Dickey Brook’s west fork. The project, located about a mile north of Route 161, carries a price tag of $452,150, according to the department.
Contractor Ed Pelletier and Sons of Madawaska is performing the work.
Motorists traveling north on Route 161 will need to turn right onto Sinclair Road, Route 162, south of the Ouellette Road intersection. Those who normally use Flat Mountain Road must use Route 162 — St. Agatha’s Main Street — to access Route 161.
Detour signs have been placed in the areas to help motorists, the DOT said.
