A weekend nor’easter will batter Maine with strong winds and rain.
The nor’easter is expected to start pelting the coast with rain Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters expect Greater Bangor to see up to 0.8 inches of rain through early next week, while the Down East coast could see an inch or more.
Meanwhile, gusts will reach up to 35 mph from Greater Bangor to Mount Desert Island. Winds will be stronger out to sea, where they could top 45 mph. The weather service warned that the storm will create “dangerous seas,” with waves up to 8 feet anticipated near the shore and swells up to 15 feet farther out in the gulf.
The brunt of the storm will be felt in southern New England, where up to 8 inches of rain are expected in Massachusetts. Its effects will be felt in New York and New Jersey.
Rain should move out of the area by Tuesday and sunshine return by the middle of next week, according to the weather service.
