Once again, as in the other rare instances the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts has ruled against President Donald Trump, a judgment emerges along a torturous manipulation of limited scope that side-steps the real issue being addressed.
In this latest case, the court has ruled that Trump’s attempt to disrupt and obfuscate mail-in voting cannot proceed because there is not enough time for the states nor the Postal Service to implement the plan. This leaves open potential future attempts for the administration to meddle in state elections, which it can be depended upon to try.
Why didn’t the nine justices in unanimity stand tall and in no uncertain terms reminded Trump that, as stated in the Constitution, running elections is exclusively a function of the individual states, and the president has no authority to interfere even if he is fearful of the likely results?
And at the same time reminded the administration and the postal service that it likewise has no role in elections and cannot pick and choose who it will serve, even when the president directs otherwise.
