It was another forgettable weekend for Maine’s six NCAA Division III football programs as all of them lost.
Five-time conference champ Endicott College, the nation’s 12th-ranked team, upended Husson University 35-6 in Beverly, Mass., in a mutual College of New England opener and Maine Maritime Academy and the University of New England dropped their CNE openers to Curry College and Western New England, respectively.
Curry topped MMA 34-14 and Western New England edged UNE 28-21.
The three New England Small College Athletic Conference schools each dropped to 0-2 as Trinity clobbered Bates 43-0, Middlebury beat Bowdoin 16-0 and Williams bested Colby 19=7.
At Hempstead Stadium in Beverly, Mass., Bryan Ferreira rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns as the Gulls improved to 4-0.
Ferreira, who carried the ball 17 times, scored on two runs of 54 yards and another of three yards as Endicott racked up 365 rushing yards.
Shea Lynch had a five-yard TD run and a 70-yard touchdown pass to Mat Leone as the Gulls built a 35-0 lead.
Lynch completed 6 of 13 passes for 112 yards.
Markys Bridgewater carried the ball 11 times for 94 yards.
Anthony Santacroce scored on a six-yard run in the fourth quarter for 0-4 Husson and he finished with 85 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Endicott’s Kennedy Charles and Husson’s Dominic Trott, Caden Crocker and Daniel Ruiz Cantu each had two receptions.
Husson’s Brody Gibson completed 8-of-18 passes for 78 yards.
Finn O’Driscoll had seven tackles, forced a fumble and recovered one for the Gulls while Husson received 10 tackles apiece from Brayden Trombly and J.T. Wright and Wright also forced a fumble. Cooper McNamara had eight tackles.
At Ritchie Field in Castine, Caden Borges completed 13 of 20 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns as Curry dealt MMA its 35th straight loss.
Borges threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Williams, a 34-yarder to Griffin Landry and a 15-yarder to Kareem Chaplin II.
Nathaniel Zachery had a 10-yard TD run for the 2-2 winners and Colin Ridley returned a punt 65 yards for a TD.
Harris Stone threw touchdown passes of eight and nine yards to Auston Harris for the Mariners.
Elia Bahuma had 12 carries for 122 yards and Zachery had five for 58 for Curry and Williams and Ridley each had four catches for 77 and 47 yards, respectively. Nicholas Walkowski’s game-high 14 tackles and Jaylen Walker’s seven paced the Curry defense.
Stone completed 19 of 30 passes for 213 yards. Jack Austin had eight catches for 53 yards and Harris had seven for 68. Harris also carried the ball 15 times for 55 yards.
Matt Gagin, Anthony Mazza Jr. and Theo Blanke had 10 tackles apiece for the 0-3 Mariners.
