One person was killed and three others were injured in a head-on crash on Chadbourne Road in Standish early Sunday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
A black Chevrolet Impala apparently crossed the center line and struck a northbound flatbed tow truck shortly before deputies arrived at about 1 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.
The first person at the scene reported that the Impala was on fire, prompting a response from several area fire and EMS departments.
Leo Rocco, 48, of Baldwin, was driving the tow truck, with Luke Boyle, 32, of Portland, and Trista Townsend, 37, of Limington, as passengers. All three were taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Impala’s driver died at the scene. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity pending an investigation by the medical examiner’s office.
The sheriff’s office and the Windham Police Department’s crash reconstruction team are investigating. Investigators said speed appears to have been a factor.
