A “super oversize” load will begin crawling across Maine starting Tuesday evening.
The nearly 684,000-pound load will depart from Riley Road in Jay starting at 6 p.m., according to the Maine State Police.
It will take about two nights for the convoy to complete its journey from Jay to the South Portland waterfront.
Once this shipment is completed, eight more will follow the same route, though a schedule for them hasn’t been released.
The state police didn’t release any details about what’s being moved other than its weight, width (20 feet), height (more than 19 feet) and length (219 feet).

— Route 26
— U.S. Route 202
— Route 22
— U.S. Route 1
— Broadway in South Portland
— Elm Street
Its ultimate destination is Turner Island in South Portland, the location of a shipping company and gas terminal.
