I believe Paul LePage’s recent complaints about immigration enforcement are pure hypocrisy. It takes a lot of nerve for him to lecture Mainers about who belongs here when he spends much of his time — and his wife pays property taxes — in Florida.
For years, LePage has attacked immigrants coming to Maine, claiming they abuse local resources and do not belong in our communities. Yet while running to represent Maine in Congress, he and his wife reportedly enjoyed Florida’s lower tax rates and a homestead exemption, seemingly only coming back to Maine when he needs our votes.
If LePage wants to talk about residency and following rules, he should start with his own living situation. Mainers know this state inside and out. To me, it’s plain and simple: If he isn’t tough enough to survive a Maine winter, he definitely can’t survive a season in Congress.
That is why I am voting for Matt Dunlap for Congress. Matt is the real deal. Not only can he survive a Maine winter, but he’s been known to spend all day out on the ice fishing, no matter how low the temperature drops, because, I believe, his heart is kept warm by pure pride in Maine.
We deserve a representative who actually lives here year-round and shares our daily lives, not a political snowbird who flies south when the weather gets cold and flies back just to tell us who gets to call Maine home.
