Not too long ago, the Camden Hills High School girls soccer team from Rockport set a state record by stringing together a 71-game unbeaten streak. From 2017 to 2021, the Windjammers went 70-0-1 before finally losing, 1-0, to rival Bangor.
They won four consecutive state Class A championships between 2016-19.
They have continued to be contenders, but Bangor has been a thorn in their sides, beating them in the Class A North championship game the past three seasons.
Camden Hills also reached the title game in 2022 only to lose to Brunswick 5-1.
Head coach Meredith Messer’s Windjammers have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in Class A North this fall with a 7-0 record that includes an 8-0 victory over Bangor and a 10-1 win over Brunswick.
Camden Hills has outscored its opponents 56-2.
And the future is bright as there are only two seniors on the roster and just one of them starts.
“The core group played together last year and played together for their club team in the offseason,” Messer said. “They have gotten to know each other better. They are a year older and a year stronger.”
Messer said her team is “firing on all cylinders” and has a strong culture.
“They like playing with each other and are super supportive of each other. They could care less who scores the goals. They want to execute and have fun,” Messer said.
The Windjammers feature one of the state’s best and most dynamic players in striker/attacking midfielder Molly Williams.
Williams was an All-Northern Maine State Team selection a year ago, as well as an All-Northern Maine Class A Regional choice.
Williams, a junior, is closing in on 100 career goals and is around the 20 mark this season, according to Messer.
But what makes Camden Hills so potent is its scoring depth.
Messer said if opponents key on Williams with double and triple-teams, “we have so many other people who can score.”
Strikers freshman Remi Caton and junior Eve Domareki are both around the 10-goal mark and sophomore Elsa Schwalm has three goals and a healthy bunch of assists, Messer said.
Domareki’s sister, sophomore midfielder Liv Domareki, supplies the Windjammers with a long-distance threat and senior striker Thea Laukka has picked up several assists with her crosses into the penalty area.
Liv Domareki, a Northern Maine Class A Regional All-Star team selection a year ago, and sophomore Cate Middleton are solid mainstays in the midfield and nicely complement Williams when she is in the number 10 role (attacking midfielder).
The back line is stellar with junior Maia Andrews and sophomore Nathalie Nelson in the middle and freshman Colette Nowak and junior Maggie McCarthy on the outside.
Sophomores Eliza Gallant and Charley Hall share the goalkeeping chores.
“They’re both getting the experience that they need,” said Messer, who felt her 2025 team “overachieved” by getting to the Class A North final where it was beaten by Bangor, 4-1.
Bangor would go on to win its second straight state title.
Messer’s Windjammers will travel to Bangor to play the Rams on Oct. 17, and she said “I expect them to give us a good match. I’m looking forward to that.”
The Rams have lost All-Americans and prolific scorers Clara Oldenburg and Georgie Stephenson to graduation and a Connecticut prep school, respectively, and influential midfielder Gabby Gordon has been lost for the season due to injury.
She pointed out that both Bangor and Brunswick have first-year coaches in Nick Christensen and Jimmy Pelletier, respectively, and it takes teams a while to adapt to their new coaches’ “philosophy, formations and style of play.”
Camden Hills will play again at 7 p.m. Thursday when the team travels to Lewiston.
