Christian Ridge Road, which Ellsworth commuters use to get between Bangor and Bucksport roads without having to drive through downtown, is partially shut down Friday afternoon as firefighters work to put out a fire at a local house.
The fire involved a Christian Ridge Road home, about a mile from Bucksport Road, with blue shingles and a trailer in its front yard.
It was not immediately clear at around 2 p.m. if there were any injuries or what caused the fire.
A section of Christian Ridge Road was completely closed from Red Bridge Road to Higgins Way.
At least eight firetrucks and two ambulances were spotted at the scene. Firefighters strapped with hoses were seen climbing up ladders, positioning their hoses through broken windows. Just before 2:30 p.m., firefighters had ascended the home’s roof.
Emergency vehicles from Ellsworth, Hancock, Orland and Southwest Harbor were on scene. A Maine Forest Ranger was also on scene.
Firetrucks were still arriving on scene by 2:30 p.m.

The Ellsworth Fire Chief did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Bangor Daily News, and the Ellsworth Police Department couldn’t provide any details on the blaze.
A thick cloud of smoke was seen billowing from the home’s roof. A sheet of smoke covered the surrounding area.
