ROCKLAND — Knox County Administrator Amber Christie announced Wednesday that she was resigning her post effective Oct. 30.
The county commissioners met Thursday evening to formally accept the resignation.
“Stepping away from this role has been an incredibly difficult decision, and I want to sincerely apologize for any disruption or inconvenience my departure may cause the Commission, staff, and our community. The choice was not made lightly, but after much reflection and discussion, I have determined that it is necessary for me to step down at this time to focus on my personal health, family, and other commitments that require my full attention,” Christie said in her resignation letter.
Christie will remain available to assist with wrapping up ongoing projects and supporting a smooth transition, Commission Chair Ed Glaser said.
“The Commission, county leadership and county staff will be working to ensure that county services continue uninterrupted as we navigate the transition” the county said in a brief statement.
The Knox County Commission will begin discussing the long-term process and timeline for filling the Administrator position in the coming weeks.
Christie has served as county administrator since December 2024, succeeding Richard “Lance” Govang who served in the post for four months before being placed on paid leave and then resigning in September 2024. No reason was ever publicly released for his departure.
Christie was hired as human resources manager in February 2023.
Govang succeeded longtime Administrator Andrew Hart who resigned in January 2023.
