ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Public Library will host award-winning Maine author Ron Currie this Thursday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. for a conversation about his latest novel “We Will See You Bleed” (2025) — a book with strong Maine roots.
The novel, the second in Currie’s Waterville trilogy, is currently being adapted for Netflix by “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
“We love bringing local audiences into conversation with writers whose work connects our community to bigger national and global conversations — and Ron’s work is a great example of that,” EPL Assistant Director Renee McManus said.
Currie will discuss his writing and the Maine history behind the novel, including the 1987 paper mill strike in Jay, and how those events shaped the story. He also weaves the experiences of the Franco-American community in Maine into his storytelling.
Free and open to the public. Event page: https://ellsworth.libcal.com/calendar/EPL-Events/author-talk-with-ron-currie.
Currie is the award-winning author of five novels. He has won the New York Public Library’s Young Lions Award, the Addison M. Metcalf Award, the Alex Award and the Pushcart Prize. His books have been translated into 15 languages, and his short fiction and nonfiction have received recognition in Best American anthologies. He lives in Portland and teaches in the University of Southern Maine Stonecoast MFA program.
