Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted photos to Facebook on Thursday from a successful moose hunt in Maine.

Noem was accompanying her daughter Kassidy Noem Peters, who bagged a bull and described the outing on Instagram as a “once in a lifetime moose hunt.”

“After the hunt, we explored the surrounding conservation areas, habitat and Amish community,” wrote Kristi Noem, who now serves as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas.

Noem, who pioneered a fashion around tactical clothing before she was fired from her role as the head of Homeland Security, posted videos and photos from the hunt, including one in which she poked fun at herself for wearing ski pants and tagged a hunting apparel company to “make some pants to fit women!! Please.”

Another photo showed a sign marking the “Donald J. Trump Jr. Rifle Range.” The president’s son and his company, Trump Timberland and Wildlife Management, bought 3,900 acres from the family of former state Rep. Austin Theriault, R-Fort Kent, in Crystal and Island Falls in November 2024.

Some commenters noted that Peters’ name wasn’t on the list of permit holders from the 2026 moose lottery. But she could have obtained one through a lodge, which receives tags through a separate lottery and can then set its own price, often $15,000 to more than $30,000. Another option to purchase a moose permit is through the state’s annual auction of 10 tags.

Peters did not immediately respond to messages sent by the BDN to her Facebook and Instagram accounts.
