Maine students scored higher on the SAT this year than they have in any of the past five years.

According to new data from the College Board, Maine high schoolers scored higher on the SAT than any graduating class since 2021 and outscored the national average by more than 40 points.

Still, less than half met the college and career readiness benchmarks, which the College Board says predict future success.

The number of Maine students meeting these benchmarks has declined by nearly 10% post-pandemic.

Maine’s SAT participation rate has remained steady since the pandemic, and the College Board said a majority of students are submitting their scores to colleges in Maine, even though most don’t require them for admission.
