A group blew up a vehicle with Tannerite in Readfield late last month.
The group was shooting at Tannerite placed inside a vehicle off Main Street on Sept. 27, according to Maj. Aaron Turcotte, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Under Maine law, it is legal to possess up to five pounds of binary target material, such as Tannerite, for sport shooting. Turcotte said Monday that it is illegal to explode anything other than the material Tannerite is mixed in.
The investigation is ongoing, including whether any charges are warranted.
