The William S. Cohen School in Bangor was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning after a swatting hoax, according to the school district.

“At approximately 11:30 a.m., school administrators received a swatting hoax message related to a bomb threat,” the district said in a statement late Wednesday afternoon.

Students were moved to the Fruit Street School, according to a message sent to parents shortly after 11:30 a.m. They returned to the William S. Cohen School about an hour later.

Bangor police searched the school “out of an abundance of caution,” and nothing was found, spokesperson Jeremey Brock said.

“The Bangor School Department appreciates the continued support and understanding of families as we work together to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students,” the school district said.
