An Oakland man who stole nearly two dozen guns from a Waterville pawn shop will spend two years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Stacey D. Neumann handed down the sentence against Cody Smith, 25, on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

He also will serve three years of supervised release and pay $6,995 in restitution, the U.S. attorney’s office said Wednesday morning.

Smith broke into the pawn shop in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2025, and during the break-in, he stole 23 handguns, the U.S. attorney has said.

He was captured on the shop’s surveillance cameras. Hours after the burglary, Smith posted videos on social media admitting to the break-in and showing off the guns, according to prosecutors.

He pleaded guilty to possessing stolen firearms on May 5, 2026.
