An Orrington man died Thursday after the vehicle he was a passenger in rammed into the corner of a downtown Ellsworth home.
Paul Meservey, 23, sustained fatal injuries after the 2018 GMC Sierra he was riding in lost control near the intersection of Bucksport and Surry roads just before 1:30 a.m., striking two buildings, according to the Ellsworth Police Department.
The driver of the eastbound truck, 19-year-old Landon Rockwell of Dedham, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth, according to police. He was later transferred by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The corner of one of the homes, at 5 Main St., had a gaping hole following the crash. A fireplace inside the home was visible from the street Thursday morning. The area was cordoned off by caution tape and “uninhabitable structure” signs posted on both of the affected homes.
The Hancock County district attorney’s office was notified of the fatal crash, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
Ellsworth police and fire responded to the crash, as well as a Northern Light ambulance and the Bangor Police Department.
