At 80 years of age I have seen a lot of elections. This one however takes the cake, I believe, for being the nastiest and probably the most costly.

What bothers me the most are the attacks on Sen. Susan Collins. I believe the claim that she caves to President Donald Trump is absurd. For the past 10 years the president has been critical of Collins because she is one of the very few politicians that truly is bipartisan. A trait we should want in all elected officials. She has stood up in support of issues that she felt would benefit her constituents, whether from the left or the right.

Why would the left complain that a Republican supports a Republican president 95% of the time? I would venture that Sen. Angus King votes against Trump most of the time.

Trump will be gone in about two years. I think the self-described lumberjack who has been in politics for 20 years would be a sorry replacement for Collins.

Remember, Trump is not on the ballot. Be careful who you vote for.
