A Dixfield man drowned Saturday afternoon while kayaking in Roxbury.
Shawn Noyes, 20, was paddling with family on Ellis Pond about 4:08 p.m. when he fell out of his kayak and tried swimming to a nearby island, according to Maine Warden Service Lt. Daniel Menard.
He vanished from sight after a few minutes.
A dive team found Noyes’ body Sunday afternoon. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
Roxbury is northwest of Rumford in Oxford County.
