The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death near Grand Lake Stream.
A body was found off Amazon Road late Tuesday morning, according to a sheriff’s dispatcher. Grand Lake Stream, in northeastern Washington County, is a popular fishing destination.
Police are still investigating the death and have not released any information about the victim or circumstances.
Washington County Chief Deputy Mike Crabtree said officials don’t think the death is suspicious and are treating it as an “unattended death.”
A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety directed inquiries to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The death is the second death investigation to hit Washington County this week after Cory Fields, a 41-year-old Indian Island man, was killed Saturday night in a shooting on the Passamaquoddy reservation, roughly 12 miles from Grand Lake Stream. Jeremy Stevens, 46, of Indian Township was arrested for murder following the shooting.
