U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic opponent Troy Jackson meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the third of four debates in Maine’s U.S. Senate race, hosted by WABI and WAGM.
Jackson, a former Maine Senate president from Allagash, is narrowly ahead of Collins, a Republican seeking a sixth term, in recent polls. But she trailed in every public poll in 2020 before beating Democrat Sara Gideon by nearly 9 points. Maine is central to control of the Senate as the only top battleground won by Kamala Harris in 2024.
The first and second debates turned on abortion, President Donald Trump and dueling ethics charges. Collins made news in the second debate by saying high earners should pay more into Social Security, bucking many others in her party without specifying exactly how.
