I am writing to encourage all voters to make their voices heard in this midterm election. Early voting is open in Maine, mail-in ballots are available, Election Day is Nov. 3. A non-partisan rally for election education and protection will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. on the North Road (across from Marden’s) in Houlton, in conjunction with voting support efforts across the country; all are welcome to participate.

My votes are going to Hannah Pingree, Matt Rush, Janel Underwood-Charette, Matt Dunlap and Troy Jackson. They best reflect my values and positions, including affordability of health care, housing, food and fuel; immigrant rights and protection; LGBTQ equality; Indigenous justice and sovereignty recognition; protection of the environment; and renewal of our country’s generosity and peaceful leadership in the world.

My beliefs and preferred candidates may or may not be the same as yours. But all of us have a right and responsibility to educate ourselves, and to vote for what we believe in. Free, fair and safe elections are a cornerstone of our democracy, to be guarded and celebrated.

Join us for the Oct. 17 rally, make sure you are registered to vote, and cast your ballot in this election. Our communities and our country depend on us all.
