I support Dakota Dupuis for Hancock County Sheriff. I recognized the spark in Dakota from the outset. Prepared, even-tempered, and thoughtful, it was refreshing having him represent the Sheriff’s Office at county commissioners’ meetings. Dakota came to the forefront for me when the animosity between Commissioner William Clark and Sheriff Scott Kane hindered any constructive dialogue.

Over my tenure as a county commissioner, I’ve seen a good amount of bad behavior during our meetings. It seems ego must go hand in hand in some positions, but l’ve never sensed that in Dakota. He advocates for his people and for the citizens of the county.

When I expressed the necessity to extend the working life of cruisers, he listened and complied. He wins some battles and loses some too, but his character never changes.

He doesn’t yell or belittle — it’s not some personal vendetta — he moves on like a mature adult.

I see Dakota Dupuis as the future of the sheriff’s office. Yes, he’s younger than the past sheriffs but not a kid and not inexperienced both in the field and administratively. In a time when so many in leadership seem mired in past transgressions and ill will, I believe Dakota has the energy, enthusiasm and leadership Hancock County needs as we restore humility and integrity to the office.
