A fire started by a woodstove heavily damaged a Castle Hill home on Saturday.
The Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Department received word of the structure fire shortly after 1 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said Monday.
It was the second heating-related blaze in three days, the fire department said on social media.
Crews arrived to find the mobile home engulfed in flames but were able to put out the fire.
A 60-year-old man, the home’s only occupant, had tried to put it out himself and injured his hand, Moss said.
The department did not release the man’s name.
Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office determined the fire was accidental and had originated near a working woodstove. As the heat ignited the wall behind the stove, the fire spread throughout the home.
The fire marshal’s office reminds anyone using heating appliances to make sure they are safely installed, maintained and placed within required distances from any combustible materials, including walls and furniture, Moss said.
