Outgoing U.S. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine may not be running for reelection this year, but he is deploying his campaign’s unspent war chest to boost fellow Democratic House candidates across the country.
From July through September, Golden’s campaign committee spent nearly $300,000, much of it in the form of campaign contributions.
Filings with the Federal Election Commission show Golden gave at least $1,000 each to Democratic candidates in Montana, Kentucky, Florida and elsewhere.
His largest contribution, $150,000, went to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the fundraising arm of House Democrats. He also made smaller donations to local candidates in Maine.
Golden has held Maine’s conservative-leaning 2nd Congressional District since 2018, but decided not to seek reelection this year.
Republican former governor Paul LePage and Democratic State Auditor Matt Dunlap are vying to succeed him in a race that has drawn national attention for its potential to determine which party controls Congress next year.
