MILLINOCKET – Celebrate fall and local community by kicking up your heels at the “Halloween Harvest Stomp” trad dance on Friday, Oct. 30. The event features live music and a dance caller and is presented by the Katahdin Folk School Project, with support from the Town of Millinocket, the Katahdin Collaborative and Belfast Flying Shoes.
The all-ages program starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 213 Aroostook Ave. in Millinocket. All are welcome! Admission is by suggested donation: $10-25 for adults and $5 for kids. Pay what you can and enjoy this program with your family and friends. Special thanks to the Elks Lodge #1521 for sharing their venue for the dance. For more dance information, email dan@outdoorsi.org
Chrissy Fowler, a Millinocket native and Stearns grad, will teach easy-to-learn dances from the unique cultural traditions of square dancing and contra dancing. Dancers will smile and laugh as they swing their partner and do-si-do at this intergenerational event. Waldo County musicians Willy Clemetson and Benjamin Foss will play fiery fiddle tunes to get everyone’s feet stomping, from dancers to folks listening on the side of the hall. Both Willy & Benjamin tour across the country to play for dances, and it’s a special treat to have them join us in the Katahdin Region.
Extend your time in the area – mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping, eating out and digging into local lore at the Millinocket Museum and Millinocket Memorial Library. Stay in town or venture to Baxter Park, Katahdin Woods & Waters or the region’s countless outdoor recreation opportunities, including renting outdoor equipment from the Katahdin Gear Library.
The Katahdin Folk School Project is a collaborative initiative focused on celebrating and sharing traditional skills, knowledge, and wisdom found in the Katahdin Region. Partners include the Millinocket Memorial Library and the Outdoor Sport Institute, with support through the Katahdin Collaborative. Info at katahdincollaborative.org
