A Bangor woman was arrested in Portland on Monday after allegedly locking herself in a McDonald’s bathroom and claiming to have a gun, leading to a standoff with police.
The incident started shortly before 11:30 a.m. when emergency medical personnel were called to the McDonald’s at 332 St. John St. for a report of a woman in the bathroom who was allegedly consuming drugs and requesting emergency medical services, according to the Portland Police Department.
When the medics arrived, the woman, later identified as Erin Baker, 44, of Bangor, told them that she had a gun. Portland police were called in and started negotiating with the woman, who remained inside the bathroom for nearly 30 minutes, according to police.
Officers “deployed pepperball rounds” into the bathroom, and Baker was “exited” and taken into custody without further incident.
She was taken to Cumberland County Jail and charged with creating a police standoff, terrorizing, refusing to submit, and criminal trespass, police said.
Police did not find a gun at the scene.
