Anyone viewing this year’s televised Maine gubernatorial debates might have noticed rigid, pinched, severe time constraints dumbing-down debate discussions to mere sound-bytes; debate moderators without mute buttons; toxic displays of blame-shifting, finger-pointing, facts-skewing.
Only one gubernatorial candidate seems to me to consistently rise above this tribal combat. Only one candidate seems to consistently reach for civility, thoughtful discussion, mutual understanding, and consensus. This candidate is not a political party tool. He doesn’t seem to have his finger to the wind.
Might he lead us out of our cold civil war?
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, please join me in voting for Richard Bennett, independent candidate for Maine’s governorship.
We may still have time for that.
