Investigators have not determined what caused the Saturday night fire that destroyed a Greenfield Township home.
The residents awoke around 9 p.m. to find fire spreading through the Cross Road home, which consisted of two structures connected by a passageway, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
By the time firefighters arrived, about 10:28 p.m., the home was already engulfed in flames.
Everyone inside, along with pets, safely escaped from the home.
The home was a total loss.
Investigators have identified several possible causes, including a pellet stove, smoking materials, extension cords and battery-operated tools, Moss said.
The origin of the fire is currently considered undetermined.
Greenfield Township is northeast of Old Town and on the Penobscot-Hancock county line.
