A passing pickup truck sent an SUV off the road and into a camper in Sidney on Wednesday morning.
Libby Ramsay Boucher, 18, of Augusta was driving a 2018 Ford F-150 on West River Road, near Ferry Road, about 6:42 a.m. when Boucher tried to overtake a 2023 Subaru Outback at a corner, according J. Chris Read, chief deputy of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
But another vehicle was oncoming as Boucher tried to pass the Subaru, and the pickup truck and SUV “came into contact” and the Subaru, driven by 48-year-old David Worthing of Sidney, went off the road, hit a culvert, demolished a camper and came to a rest on its front grill perpendicular to the ground, Read said.
Firefighters had to free Worthing from the totaled Subaru. The Ford had just minor scrapes and a flat tire.
Worthing was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Boucher wasn’t injured.
No charges have been filed.
