A Connecticut man hid in shrubbery after he allegedly crashed into a Naples restaurant early Sunday morning.
Stuart John McClure, 32, of New London was charged with operating under the influence, eluding, aggravated driving to endanger and criminal speeding, according to Maj. Aaron Turcotte, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
McClure was allegedly speeding and driving erratically in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee on Route 302 in Bridgton about 12:30 a.m. He stopped when a trooper pulled him over, but then allegedly sped away, prompting police to pursue him for several miles.
As he entered the causeway in Naples, McClure allegedly crashed into the awning and porch support beams outside Rick’s Cafe.
McClure allegedly fled on foot and was later found hiding in shrubbery along the causeway’s shoreline.
He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
