An incumbent and one new member were elected to the Orono Town Council Tuesday.
Daniel Demeritt, the board’s current chair, and Colleen Marzilli were elected to the council. The race saw four candidates vying for two seats on the board.
Demeritt received 1,987 votes, while 2,129 were cast for Marzilli, according to results submitted by Orono Town Clerk Shelly Crosby. Orono voters cast 6,279 ballots Tuesday.
Their opponents, Devon Biggie and Daniel LaPoint, received 1,287 and 876 votes, respectively.
The two electees said they want to maintain affordability for Orono residents and find ways for the town to bring in new businesses and create new public policy.
Demeritt, an incumbent and chair of the outgoing council, will continue his time on the council, which has made decisions on Orono’s long-term vision and enacted reactive policy based on public feedback.
Running for reelection, Demeritt said he has “more to do” as a councilor.
Marzilli, who ran for a council seat in 2025, wants to bring ideas to the council that would highlight Orono’s natural beauty and public services, she said last month. As a councilor, Marzilli said she wants Orono to be affordable while investing in housing and business.
