An indoor cat in Lincoln learned last week that being outside isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Lucy, a tuxedo cat, escaped from her home and found herself 95 feet up a tree, where she got stuck for two days and her tail froze to a branch, according to the Lincoln Fire Department.

Enter firefighter Colter Mirtes, who had just finished his probationary period with the department, who came to the distressed feline’s aid Friday.

“The running joke in the firehouse is that a newly hired fireman can’t officially come off of their probationary status until they rescue an animal. Deer, squirrels, cats, dogs, raccoons… we’ve been there,” the department said.

Lucy was apparently quite excited to get back home.

“Lucy may be down to 8 lives – but if cats had thumbs, I’m sure Colter would have 1 more Christmas card on the way this year,” the department wrote in a social media post.
