Agricultural retail chain Tractor Supply Co. wants to open a store near downtown Bucksport.

The company has submitted an application to the town’s planning board for a new location at 116 Route 1, near the small existing strip mall that’s home to Family Dollar, Subway and U.S. Cellular.

It would bring another business to Bucksport during a period of new economic activity near the center of town and add another regional location for the company, which also has stores nearby in Bangor, Belfast, Ellsworth and Holden.

The proposal includes building a new store of almost 22,000 square feet at a site that would include 60 parking spaces and three parking spaces for trailers.

The application was submitted by Florida-based Palm Coast Capital, LLC, which has been involved in developing Tractor Supply stores in other states. It plans to buy about 6.5 acres from Wendy L. Carpenter, a purchase and sale agreement included with the application shows.

The property is currently an empty lot, but formerly housed a convenience store, according to a real estate listing. It was listed at $129,000 and is currently under contract.

The location would feature indoor and outdoor retail space, an equipment display area, a greenhouse, pet grooming services and non-boarding vet services, according to application materials. Products would include home and garden supplies, animal feed, farm equipment, trailers, small vehicles, propane, live plants and other “rural lifestyle” items.

The store would be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, with deliveries typically made once a week.

The Bucksport Planning Board is set to review the site plan at its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
