A 28-year-old man from Millinocket died after a serious crash in East Millinocket on Wednesday morning.
The crash on Outer Central Street near Rice Farm Road in Millinocket was reported at around 7:45 a.m., according to the East Millinocket Police Department. When officials arrived at the scene, they found a propane delivery truck and an SUV had gone off the road.
Both vehicles were badly damaged, and the driver of the SUV was seriously injured. Emergency responders attempted to provide lifesaving aid, but the man died at the scene of the crash. He has not been identified.
Officials believe that the SUV driver had been westbound when he lost control of the vehicle due to icy conditions, veered into the eastbound lane, and was struck by the propane truck.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene to assess if there was any propane leak. Further information was not immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
