A man allegedly poured gasoline over a woman’s car and threatened to burn her and her dog in Bangor early Tuesday morning.

David Vieira, 45, has been charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, according to Katy England, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.

Vieira allegedly poured gasoline over his partner’s vehicle, where they had been living, before threatening to set it on fire with her and the dog both inside.

The woman escaped with the dog before Vieira could touch the lighter to the gas, England said Tuesday morning.

She fled to the Bangor Police Department, where she told officers Vieira was chasing her. Vieira emerged into the lobby behind her, and Officer Emily Konopka intercepted him and told him to leave.

Officers interviewed the woman and Vieira, and discovered evidence that gas had been poured over the vehicle, along with a gas can. Vieira also was in possession of a lighter, according to England.

He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Tuesday afternoon, according to the jail’s website.
