One person died and another was seriously hurt Saturday night when an ATV crashed on Beech Grove Road in Corinth, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report of the crash at approximately 9:55 p.m.

When deputies and Corinth rescue workers responded to the call, they found that an ATV had left the road and rolled over into a wooded area, ejecting both occupants.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Early findings indicate the ATV was being driven on the road rather than a designated trail when the crash occurred. Speed, reckless operation and alcohol may have been contributing factors, according to investigators.

The identity of the person who died is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Penobscot County sheriff’s officers are investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585 or through the office’s mobile app tip line.
